"…that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light."

Although I had dabbled in the arts as a teen and young adult, I began painting seriously in 1989 after spending a year in the south of England where I became inspired to paint.

My art is an important form of communication for me.  It can express who I am and how I see the world in all it's beauty and fallen-ness.  I believe my ability to paint is a gift that God, the true creator of all things, has given me and I feel both humbled and blessed that I have the opportunity to use that gift, hopefully, in a way that pleases Him.

Primarily a figurative artist using oils in a more traditional realist style, I have also explored other subjects and styles - most  recently  landscape and still life, specifically reflective pieces.   My favorite subject matter, however, are children exploring, discovering and interacting with their everyday world.

I have won many awards for my work, including Best of Show, People’s Choice Awards and a merit award in international juried competition.  My work can be found in homes across the United States as well as several other countries around the world.

In January of 2007 I was diagnosed with eye cancer.  Choroidal melanoma is a rare eye cancer (about 6 of one million) found behind the retina of the eye.    This is not a diagnosis anyone wants to hear but especially a visual artist, and my initial fear was that it would eventually end my career as an artist.  I painted frantically for nine months after diagnosis, then had to lay my painting aside as I went through radiation and a couple surgeries on the eye.  In August of 2008 I returned to my painting and feel like I have 'come home again'.
